Baking for the Eve Appeal

Last week I received a mysterious email from work with the subject “funny feet”. At first I was a bit offended… Does someone has to say something about my perfectly formed feet?? But then curiosity overcame my ego and I just chose to read it first before I come to any conclusions!

Fortunately, my feet are absolutely fine! The email was only suggesting a day of baking and wearing funny shoes! Why? To raise money and support the Eve Appeal, the gynaecology cancer research fund. At this point I would like to point out that the initiative was taken by a man (!), which I found very thoughtful and touching. So, big thank you to Andreas! Funny thing is that this is such a sensitive subject for me and it obviously bothers me as a woman. However, I never thought of a way to support the cause. And then one day a man sends you an email and asks you to help… Just food for thought…

On this note and because I am obsessed with butternut squash lately I decided on a wintery spiced cake. I debated for a while on whether I should bake a savoury cake but my obsession won at the end. Which proved to be a good thing because this cake was praised by absolutely everyone. Well not everyone… EDITD’S “Paul Hollywood” found it under baked… It is just the butternut squash that makes it so moist! However, I believe the comment “the best cake I ever had” says everything you need to know about it before you start baking! Not to mention that it disappeared by the end of the day…
